TOMS RIVER-An employee of the Toms River School District with knowledge of the investigation into leaked confidential employee records on Monday confirmed school board member Daniel Leonard was not a suspect in the latest scandal within the district.
Leonard, who was accused earlier this year of peering into the window of a fellow board member’s home as his daughter set the dinner table, apparently has been cleared of involvement in the district’s investigation to find the leaker.
2017 has been a tumultuous year for the Toms River School Board, starting with a pay to play scandal this past spring and a summer-long conflict between board members that culminated with charges being filed against Leonard after he stalked and harassed another school board member, even calling him a “little bitch” at a board meeting. That meeting was attended by teachers and students, leading some in the audience to question the priorities of the board.
The charges against Leonard were dropped in a deal made between the board members to settle their differences amicably, but can be filed again within a one-year period from the time of the incident.
Leonard admitted to being at the man’s home but said he parked his vehicle in front of the home only to investigate his fellow board member’s finances. Leonard sped away when the board member’s wife caught him in front of the home while walking her dog.
Leonard later texted the board member, “;) Cute Dog” according to records of the incident provided by the Toms River Police Department.
