Jackson Wildcats Win Bridgewater 16u Fall Brawl

BRIDGEWATER-The Jackson Wildcats 16u travel softball team was crowned champions at the 2017 Bridgewater Fall Brawl softball tournament.

The Wildcats went 3-0 in pool play on Saturday, defeating their first three opponents.  In game 1, the Wildcats beat the Montgomery Mavericks 14-0.  Alex Daugherty, Emily Sandbeg, Charlotte Piper, Shayla Nagle and Angelina Lopiccolo each had three hits.  Piper pitched 5 scoreless innings for the win in the circle.

In game two, Piper led the offensive charge for the Wildcats, batting 3-3 with 2 rbi, including a double.   Alexa Frazetto pitched a complete 7 inning game, giving up just two earned runs.


In game three, the Wildcats made short work of the MVP Mustangs, 12-2 in just four innings.  Sandbeg had 3 rbi and Nagle went 2-2.  Nicole Cataldo got the win, striking out 6 in four innings.

On Sunday, in the elimination round, the 3-0 Wildcats again faced the Mustangs, this time defeating them 11-1.   Lauren Cannestro went 2-2 and Meagan Wieniewski, Sandbeg and Lauren O’Leary each had a pair of rbi’s.  Piper earned her second win from the circle, striking out 7 in 4 innings.

In the championship game, the Wildcats played the Duchess Dubs and with the score 0-0 going into the bottom of the 5th inning when the Wildcats put one run on the board.  In the sixth, the Debs had a chance to tie the game, but shortstop O’Leary made a throw to the plate to Nagle to get the out.

Frazetto pitched 4.2 innings and Marissa DiPaolo pitched 2.1 innings in the combined shutout.  Emily Sandbeg went 2 for 2 at the plate.
