Jackson Township Prepares for upcoming Winter Storm

Your News

As per the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect.  Starting around midnight tonight, rain will start then quickly transition into snow leaving significant snowfall amounts.  The heavy snow, poor visibility and dropping temperatures will make travel dangerous, especially for the Thursday morning commute.  During poor driving conditions, it is imperative that the traffic on the roadways stay at a minimum.  For your safety and others, staying at home is best during inclement weather such as this.

Please know that the Township is making every effort to ensure that snow removal is handled as safely and expeditiously as possible.  The Department of Public Works will clear all major roadways first to allow for emergency vehicles and will then proceed to clear all secondary roads.  There are many roadways within Jackson Township that are County roads and therefore will be maintained by the County Road Department.  All obstacles, such as vehicles, basketball apparatus, etc., must be removed from all Jackson Township roadways to allow the Department of Public Works as much access as possible while plowing.  It is important to know that during significant snow events the Township’s Emergency No Parking Ordinance (Chapter 103, Article VIII) is enforced, meaning all vehicles on the roadways that are in violation of this article are subject to removal by the township at the owners expense. Should you have a fire hydrant in front of your home, the Municipal Utilities Authority, as well as the Local Fire Departments, could use your help with clearing the snow around it for ease of access in the event of an emergency.  “The sooner we get our roads clear the safer it is for all our first responders to do their jobs. This is a township wide effort that depends on cooperation, patience and understanding,” said Mayor Reina.

PLEASE REMEMBER that if you are cold, SO ARE YOUR ANIMALS.  Please bring your pets inside during these frigid conditions.
