TOMS RIVER-On Monday, the Toms River Regional School District held a professional day to promote social, emotional learning, a positive effort to encourage alternative classroom strategies.
Social, Emotional Learning is a philosophy that is slowing being adopted in classrooms across America that seeks to infuse education with less utilitarian methods. SEL is already a solid and successful platform instituted in several Jersey Shore area school districts.
It involves the old ways of teaching and mixing them with new ideas to reach a new generation that has been brought up differently than past generations, but one school board member went to Facebook to mock the process.
In another obnoxious and distracting rant, Dan Leonard a Republican representative of Beachwood on the schoolboard quipped, “I hear today’s Professional Development Day was brought to you by ANTIFA & BLM?”.
A school district officials said the comments did not reflect anything about the event which was held for k-5 teachers.
Leonard didn’t elaborate on his post.
