Mayor Carmen Amato, credits a team effort across the township to keep costs down and that forces the government to live within its means.

“Berkeley Township has the 27th lowest average overall property taxes in New Jersey out of 565 communities and the 2nd lowest average overall property tax bill in Ocean County at $4,149 per household, meaning that the average Berkeley Township homeowner pays less than half of the statewide average property tax bill of $8,690 per year, said Mayor Carmen Amato today,” According to NJ.Com. “Considering what we’ve endured in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and the resulting loss of ratables and downturn in the local economy, I am really proud of what we’ve done to keep Berkeley Township an affordable place to live for our families and seniors,” said Mayor Amato.  “These results don’t happen on accident, and we’re determined to continuing our efforts to keep costs down in government so we can keep taxes down for our residents.”

Amato said the effort was across the board in the local municipal government.
