TOMS RIVER-Andy Kim, a Democrat candidate for Congress to represent New Jersey’s third congressional district said he is in favor of a federal gun ban.
According to a report in the Burlington County Times, Kim stood with gun control activist Gabrielle Giffords and fellow Democrats to call for the federal gun ban and to reduce the influence of the National Rifle Association.
Kim called to his experience in Afghanistan as a civilian advisor and note-taker during the administration of President Barrack Obama.
“These weapons of war that I saw out in Afghanistan, these are the types of things we don’t need here in our communities. These are the types of things we need to make sure we’re protecting our families from. We had those types of provisions before, and they were taken away and I think there’s a real opportunity for us,” Kim said in the report.
Before coming to New Jersey to run for Congress, from his home in the Washington, D.C. area, he was an advisor to former President Barrack Obama.
Kim has recently been criticized for embellishing his role in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as a civilian advisor for the Obama administration, although federal documents identify him simply as, “a note-taker”.
This week, photos surfaced of Andy Kim meeting with leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood while serving under Obama.
The third congressional district encompasses Toms River, Berkeley Township and other Ocean County municipalities south to Stafford.
