BRICK-On 06/06/18 at 0548 hours Ptl. Dave Thergesen conducted a motor vehicle stop on a black 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup that was pulling a landscape trailer. Ptl. Thergesen stopped the vehicle for having an expired registration on the trailer on Route70 near Van Zile Rd.

The driver of the vehicle provided a false name to conceal the fact that he actually had a warrant for his arrest. While Ptl. Thergesen was attempting to verify the true identity of the operator the suspect sped from the scene with his female passenger.

The suspect traveled Westbound on Route 70 and made a right turn onto Jack Martin Blvd Northbound. While making this turn mulch from the trailer began spilling onto the roadway and a gas can also fell from the trailer. Due to the suspect’s erratic and dangerous driving Ptl.Thergesen terminated the pursuit at this time.

Shortly after terminating the pursuit Ptl.Thergesen, Ptl. Pacyna and Ptl. Riccio discovered that the vehicle had crashed at Jack Martin Blvd and Route 88 West. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crossed the lawn at The Ocean Heart Group where the trailer ripped from the vehicle. The vehicle continued on the lawn and then crossed Route 88 at which point it mounted the curb and the vehicle rolled over onto the property of 1541 Route 88. The suspect climbed from the vehicle and attempted to run when he was apprehended by Officers.

The suspect was positively identified at Joseph Willemain, 28 year old, white, male from Parkton Maryland. The passenger was assisted from the vehicle by Officers and both subjects refused first aid.

The passenger was identified as Rachel Katz, 26 year old, white, female from Brick. Katz was arrested for an unrelated warrant from Brick.

Joseph Willemain was charged with, Eluding Police, hindering arrest, resisting arrest, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, unregistered vehicle, failure to exhibit driver’s license, loading as to spill, and throwing or dropping debris from a motor vehicle.
Katz was processed and released and Willemain was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail as per bail reform.
