Business Owner Injured After Vehicle Crashed into Beachwood Wunder Weiner

Local business owner, councilman injured after SUV crashed into hot dog stand.

BAYVILLE-On Monday morning, an SUV lost control and drove into the trailer that housed the iconic Wunder Weiner hot dog stand.

Police reported that owner Gerald LaCrosse was in the trailer at the time of the crash.

The incident happened early Monday morning.


Upon arrival officers observed a a vehicle crashed into the business causing extensive damage and injury.


Police said LaCrosse was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center for injuries.  The Beachwood Police department said Lacrosse, who also serves as a borough council member was seriously injured.

Wunder Weiner is located in the parking lot of the former Beachwood Plaza, just a few feet off of Route 9’s southbound lane.

This crash is still under investigation by the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Bureau. Any information regarding it can be forwarded to Lieutenant George Dohn at 732-341-1132 x2125. Traffic is backed in both directions and is being diverted.

“Everyone knows the Wunder Wiener Hot Dog Stand and the impact his business had in not only our community, but the Jersey Shore,” the Beachwood Police Department said.  “It was a terrible day for the Beachwood / Berkeley Community…Please keep this wonderful Man and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.”

The Crash is being investigated by the Berkeley Township Police Department, assisted by the Ocean County Fatal Accident Support Team.
