JACKSON-On Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 6:41 pm, Police Officers Sean Greenberger and Stephen Cilento responded to the Quick Chek located on Leesville Road on the report of a stolen vehicle which also contained the victim’s dog.

Upon arrival, the victim reported that she had parked her 2011 Hyundai in front of the store. The victim’s shih tzu dog was also inside the vehicle, which was not running but left unlocked with the keys in the ignition. The victim observed a female leaning against a post in front of the store as she went inside and when she exited, the female and her vehicle were gone.

The victim advised that her iPhone had been left inside the vehicle and with the assistance of a good Samaritan’s phone, was able to access the Find my iPhone and determine that the phone was on Interstate 195 westbound. The State Police were contacted and as Officer Greenberger updated police dispatch of the phone’s location, were able to locate and stop the vehicle on Route 129 in Trenton. The driver was later identified as the female that the victim had observed in front of the store and the dog was also recovered. The officers then transported the victim to the location to retrieve her vehicle and dog, afterwards they accompanied the State Police to the Hamilton Barracks where Troopers processed and signed complaints against the arrestee before taking custody of her to transport her back to Jackson Police headquarters.

Jaclyn Rose, age 29 with reported addresses in Howell and Yardville was arrested by the police. She was processed and charged with two counts of theft, one for the vehicle and another for the dog, and also with driving with a suspended driver’s license. It was also discovered that she had outstanding warrants for her arrest out of Ewing Township and Hamilton. She was later lodged in the Ocean County Jail and held without bail.

Similar incidents have occurred in the township in the past and residents are again reminded not to leave their unsecured vehicles, running or not, with the keys inside in front of a store as they go inside as it provides those who may be looking for an easy target with an opportunity to take their belongings or vehicle. Animal owners should also exercise caution in leaving unattended animals inside vehicles.
