Join the Ocean County Master Gardeners for their annual plant sale: “Plants & People: Happy Together”, on Saturday, May 5th 2018, from 9 am to 1 pm (Rain or Shine). The renowned annual sale is held in the parking lot of the Rutgers Agricultural Center, located at 1623 Whitesville Road (Route 527 & Sunset Ave.), Toms River, N.J.
Available for purchase are locally grown annuals, perennials, edibles, herbs and shrubs which grow well in New Jersey. Rutgers heirloom tomatoes will make your taste buds soar throughout the summer months along with various Vegetables such as peppers, watermelon, yellow squash, cucumbers, and zucchini and Herbs of all kinds such as diverse types of basil, oregano, rosemary, lavender and cilantro which are not only fragrant but flavorful and will enhance your dinner meals.
This year’s featured plant is the Highbush Blueberry ‘Patriot’ which is native to the eastern United States. It is a deciduous, low growing smaller size bush perfect for home gardeners; is extremely hardy in the cold and is practically disease resistant. It produces large fruit which is sweet yet with balanced acidy; yielding medium to heavy crop.
The Master Gardener Green Teams are offering over 500 varieties of dazzling, amazing, hardy for our zone, eye-catching plants and hanging baskets which include Unique Flowering Plants such as: Dwarf Lions Tail, Pentas (Egyptian Star Flower), Euphobia (Glitz), Nicotiana (Purple Flowering Tabaco), Amaranthus, Melampodium (Butter Daisy), Celosia Kosmo Cherry (Cocks Comb), Nigella (Love-in-a-mist), Salvias (several varieties), Agastache (Hyssop), Abutilon (Flowering Maple), Angelonia (Summer Snapdragon), Ruellia (Mexican Petunia), Asclepius (Butterfly Weed), Oxypetulum (Blue Flowered Milkweed), Blue Pea Vine, Pink Chinese Foxglove, Pink Cat’s Whiskers, and More!!
Our shrub team will also have many available plants to color your garden in Spring, Summer and the Fall.
Free parking is available; All ages are welcome. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your Plant Sale and Gardening questions as well as to provide information on our services such as tick and plant identification, soil testing, helpline hours, and how to become a Master Gardener Volunteer.
