Governor Murphy Shuts Down All State and County Parks

Shore News Network

TRENTON-Governor Phil Murphy today announced the immediate closure of all of New Jersey’s state and county parks.  Earlier this week, Ocean County Freeholder Virginia Haines, 78, ordered Ocean County parks closed.   A week earlier, Haines announced the closure of the Mantoloking Bridge Park in Brick after reports of large gatherings of Orthodox Jewish families had descended upon the park, according to county officials who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal.

Today, Murphy echoed the call of Haines and shut down all state parks, including some of the largest parks, including the 16,000 acre High Point State Park, 35,000 acre Wawaynada State Park,  10,000 acre Allamuchy State Park, 9,000-acre double trouble state park and more.

Fresh air and exercise are what the doctor ordered, now Murphy says if you want to get out and get fresh air and exercise, stay in your own neighborhood and close to home.

What about your local municipal parks?   Murphy’s order does not include your local town parks. The decision to close those parks lies in the hands of your local mayor and elected officials, so be sure to check their website or Facebook page before visiting to ensure you are not breaking the law.
