Teen Charged After Leading Police on Chase Through Apartment Complex in Stolen Vehicle

JACKSON- Last Friday, at 1:21 am, Jackson Police Officer Stephen Cilento responded to an apartment residence located on West Countyline Road on the report of a vehicle taken without consent. The vehicle owner reported that her teenaged nephew had taken her vehicle without her consent.

While patrolling in the area a short time later, the officer observed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop with it.

The juvenile drove the vehicle recklessly through the Pineview Apartments complex, Bennetts Mills Plaza and onto West Countyline Road in a reckless manner as he disregarded the officer as he was pursued and the pursuit was terminated by a supervisor. The juvenile was then involved in a second pursuit with Police Officer Doug Thompson at another location in town before that pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns and was then involved in two separate pursuits in Lakewood which were terminated.

Later that morning, before noon, Police Officers Joe Candido, Kevin Chesney, Michael Morizio and Ryan Gladysz located the vehicle with heavy front end damage parked on Bryant Drive. During the investigation the juvenile was located hiding in the bushes of a nearby residence and was taken into custody.

The teenager was charged with: unlawful taking of means of conveyance, theft, eluding, resisting arrest and multiple motor vehicle summonses. He was processed and later lodged in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention. During the investigation, a 21 year old male was also issued a summons complaint for obstructing the investigation.
