LAWRENCEVILLE-The winter weather in New Jersey held off just long enough Easter weekend to allow for the opening of the 2018 United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) travel softball season.  Weather threatened the USSSA Cabin Fever 14u tournament and rain forced the tournament to be moved from Brick Township west to Lawrenceville High School.

There, the Jersey Assassins, came out victorious, winning the coveted championship, defeating the Elmora Huskies 12-4 in the championship game.  The Assassins outscored their opponents 35-15 on the day.

Highlights from the tournament include Alyssa Appruzzi (Toms River Intermediate East) hitting her second home run of the season to help the Assassins defeat the Neptune Lady Wolves  15-1.  Ella Moore (Veterans Memorial Middle School) was named game MVP.

In their second game, the Assassins trailed the Huskies 7-2 heading into the final inning, but managed a 6 run rally in the bottom of the inning to defeat the Huskies 8-7.  That inning Skyler LaFisca (Stone Bridge MS) started the rally with a leadoff single.  Alexa Kondas (Monroe HS), Paige Nolan (Manchester HS) and Molly Webber (Veterans Memorial MS) each had base hits during the rally.  The game ended when Kameko Miraglia (New Egypt HS) drilled a bases-loaded fastball down the left field line to clear the bases. Miraglia was named game MVP.

In the championship game the Assassins once again met the Huskies who took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, but in the bottom of the inning, the Assassins turned the tables, taking 7-4 lead into the second inning.
