Local Dentist to Provide Free Dental Care for Kids

(Jackson, NJ) – Local orthodontist, Dr. Miriam T. Furlong, will provide patient education, preventative dental care, and if necessary, make referrals for continuing treatment for children ages 12 and under as part of National Children’s Dental Health Month (CDHM). The one-day program, called Give Kids a Smile (GKAS), will take place throughout the country on Friday, February 5, 2016 and is part of the American Dental Association’s (ADA) annual push to bring attention to the number one childhood disease, tooth decay.

“Giving back to the community that has supported my practice is so important, “ says Dr. Furlong. “This program, more than a decade old, will touch the lives of so many of New Jersey’s children who need oral healthcare instruction. I am proud to be a part of it, “ she said.

Children who come to Dr. Furlong’s office on Friday, February 5th will receive a comprehensive dental exam, oral healthcare instruction, cleanings, flouride treatments and free dental hygiene materials. Parents must make an appointment in order for their child to be treated. Call Dr. Furlong’s office at 732-942-8400 to set up a visit.

Dr. Furlong is a past president of the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society and is the Children’s Dental Health Committee Chair. She has been practicing dentistry for more than 15 years. Her practice, Jackson Orthodontics, is located at 186 W. Veterans Highway.

According to the American Dental Association, since the program’s national launch in 2003, more than 4 million children have been treated. In 2015, here in New Jersey, more than 2,500 children were seen during GKAS events at 166 locations statewide. Give Kids a Smile is supported by Colgate, Dental Dental of NJ and Henry Schein Dental.

A list of other participating locations in N.J. can be found at www.NJDA.org, or you may call Jackson Orthodontics 732-942-8400 for more information.
