Phil Stilton

LACEY-On Monday, January 5, 2015, at 8:13 p.m., Sergeant Ronald Buxton along with Officers Robert Duffy and Michael Verwey responded to Dover Road in the Bamber Lake section of Forked River for a motor vehicle accident involving an overturned pickup truck and trailer. The caller reported that a tree was apparently struck and no one was in the vehicle or in the immediate area of the crash. Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, the 2001 GMC pickup truck and immediate area were searched for the driver and/or occupants with negative results. Efforts made to contact the female who was the registered owner of the vehicle and who resides in Browns Mills, NJ were initially unsuccessful.

Out of concern that someone might have been injured and walked into the woods in the cold temperatures, additional assistance was requested to conduct a search. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, the Berkeley Township Police Department, along with the New Jersey State Police Helicopter responded to the area to assist with the search.

The comprehensive search yielded no results. Further investigation resulted in the driver being identified as 39-year-old Kortnee Hollaway (male) of Nottoway Lane in Toms River. Kortnee Holloway was contacted and responded to Lacey Police Headquarters. Kortnee Holloway admitted to operating the vehicle and leaving the scene after receiving a ride from a passerby. Kortnee Holloway was served with multiple traffic summonses including: Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License, Careless Driving, Failure to Report an Accident, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Abandoning a Motor Vehicle.
